Lydia Donaldson Tutt-Jones Memorial Research Grant

April 8, 2009

African American Success Foundation (AASF) is pleased to announce that the Lydia Donaldson Tutt-Jones Memorial Research Grant is now $3,000.00. The application deadline is June 12. Further information about this grant including purpose, eligibility, applicable subjects, and how to apply can be found at the AASF website. Remember that the purpose of this grant is to build the body of knowledge about African American success, rather than the typical focus on failures, deficits, and dysfunctions. Therefore, studies must be designed to focus on African American high academic achievers. Feel free to forward to colleagues who may be interested.

Also, AASF is pleased to inform you about financial support being offered by another South Florida philanthropy, the Jacki Tuckfield Memorial Graduate Business Scholarship Fund, for those who are pursuing MBA studies. Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Awards BMRC Grant to Develop Consortium Wide Survey of African American Collections

March 6, 2008

The Black Metropolis Research Consortium (BMRC) has received a $50,000 officer’s grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to develop a plan for a consortium wide survey of unprocessed and under-processed archival collections related to African-American History in the Chicago Metropolitan area. Using the model developed by the Philadelphia Area Consortium of Special Collections Libraries (PACSCL) and the Historical Society of Pennsylvania (HSP), which includes extensive explanations of the description, access, condition, and value ratings, an effective workflow was planned in accordance with the design of the survey instrument, a FileMaker Pro database. The grant from Andrew W. Mellon Foundation also supports an expansion of the BMRC to explore the possibility of further collaborative efforts intended to meet the challenges of documenting African American History.
